Concept art for Marvel's upcoming Black Widow shows Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) head-to-head with the film's mysterious villain Taskmaster.  If things had been different, Black Widow would have debuted earlier this month.  However, the coronavirus pandemic forced Disney and Marvel to delay it until November, a decision that ended up altering much of the MCU phase 4 release schedule.  The additional delay disappointed fans who had already waited years for Natasha to get her own solo film.  Fortunately, however, they were promised that Black Widow was worth the wait.

Black Widow already has the answers to many questions fans are asking about Natasha, but there is also a major question the audience has in mind before its release: who is Taskmaster?  The comic book villain was confirmed as part of the film last year, but Marvel has yet to announce who exactly is playing it.  Trailers for Black Widow has confirmed that Taskmaster is the head of the Red Room program who trained Natasha at a young age to be an assassin, and that he has the ability to perfectly imitate the fighting style of anyone he watches.  For the moment, however, her identity remains a mystery.

Black Widow's trailers have already teased Natasha's fights against Taskmaster, and an official piece of conceptual art from the film highlights one of their confrontations.  Shared online by conceptual artist Marvel Andy Park, the image shows the two fighting on a bridge.  This concept art had already been revealed, but now it is available in HD.  Fans will note that Taskmaster is armed with a shield that has made many comparisons with Captain America (Chris Evans).  You can see the art in the space below.

It's hard not to be aware of the fact that, if Black Widow had made its original release date, fans would already know who's in Taskmaster's mask.  They've already started theorizing for themselves who it could be, with many fingers pointing to O-T Fagbenle, who recently dodged assumptions on social media.  Black Widow is still a long way off, unfortunately, and Marvel will likely do its best to keep the Taskmaster actor secret for as long as possible in order to make a startling revelation.

Black Widow already promises to explore the character of Natasha in a way that the MCU did not previously, and although the extra wait was a hard pill to swallow, there is still a lot of excitement around the film.  .  Only time will tell if the delay in Black Widow affects its performance.  Fan questions will finally be answered in November, provided there are no more complications.
